COURSE DESCRIPTION
        Studio Art 3-D is a hands on exploration into the various aspects of 3-D art including art history, art production, art criticism, and aesthetics. You will work in a variety of sculptural media possibly including relief, wood, clay, plaster, mixed media and even computer graphics. The goal of this course is for you to gain a better understanding and appreciation for sculptural art through your own exploration and expression!

In this course you will learn about:
        Art History –The artists, cultures and history related to your art project
        • Elements & Principles – Review, then identify and apply them to art
• Art Criticism & Aesthetics  - Develop your own critical thinking skills as   you communicate your own responses, interpretations about artists’ work

• Art Production – As an artist you will research and develop your own ideas to plan and create your own 3-D art.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION
Numeric grades are given for each art project, sketchbook and exam Homework & review sheets are based on points (5 pts, 20 pts, 25 pts)

  • 4-5 art projects (usually 2-4 weeks each) – Count 1-2x each
  • Sketchbook assignments  
        4 per quarter: checked 1 week after assigned
      Sketchbook collected end of each quarter and graded = 1 class grade
  • Homework and In class reading/notes worksheets – usually 5 -25 pts each
  • Quizzes & Review sheets –20 – 25 pts each
  • Workday Grade sheets – 25 pts. - Unannounced grade for workday based on proper use of class time & materials, clean up, & following directions  
  • Performance/Participation – Numeric class grade factored into average. Based on participation in class discussions, attendance(tardy, skip etc.), attitude, responsibility & cooperation, meeting deadlines
  • Final Exam – Given during exam block – 100 pts.
  • FINAL AVERAGE = Each quarter grade is worth 2/5 of Final Average
Final exam grade is worth 1/5 of Final Average
MATERIALS & FEES
Art Fee: $4 collected at beginning of semester
9” x 12” Sketch book, 5 or more #2 pencils, plastic bags for clay storage
*One artwork from each student will be saved and placed in May Arts Fest

*SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENTS
4 Sketchbook assignments are assigned each quarter. They are assigned throughout the quarter and each one is checked (not graded) for completeness approximately ONE Week after initially being assigned.

At the End of Each Quarter:
Sketchbooks are COLLECTED AND ALL 4 ASSIGNMENTS ARE GRADED.
Please note that Late sketchbooks are due the following class after the above dates. If absent, sketchbooks are due immediately upon return. Any sketchbooks not received at all or turned in AFTER  late dates receive a ZERO.

• Assignment #5 - Draw an Athlete in Action - Fill the page • Use a good reference photo • ADD SHADING AND VALUE!
DUE:  Blk. 3 & 4 ACE - Mon. 4/15
          Blk. 2 BDF - Tues. 4/16
        
• Assignment #6 - Draw a memorable moment or Dream - Fill the page and add shading and value
DUE:  Blk. 3 & 4 ACE - Mon. 4/29
          Blk. 2 BDF - Tues. 4/30

• Assignment #7 - TBA To be Completed in class in the Lab!

• Assignment #8 -Elements and Principles playing card
Deadline is below - Please note alll 4 assignments to be collected and graded

**ALL 4 ASSIGNMENTS IN SKETCHBOOK FROM 4th QUARTER TO BE COLLECTED & GRADED ON:  
Block 2 BDF: DUE Weds. May 22
Blocks 3 & 4 ACE:  DUE Thurs. May 23
