A partial list of things to know for the science test.
Mrs. Nerg
All living things have seven 'life processes'
Move
Reproduce
Sensitive (they react)
Nutrition (they need it)
Excrete (get rid of what they don't need)
Respire (take in and use oxygen)
Grow

A plant getting larger is an example of growing.

A fish breathing by using the oxygen that is dissolved in water is respiration

When our bodies digest food, the parts we can't use are poisonous to us. Our body gets rid of them in the process called excretion.

Eating healthy food is good nutrition.

Our eyes hurt when a bright light is turned on because they are sensitive.

Seeds are the method many plants use to reproduce.

A plant's roots reach down into the soil. This is one way plants move.

To survive, all living things need food, water, shelter, and air.

When frogs and insects go through their life, their bodies take on many forms. This is called metamorphosis.

Insect life cycle: egg > larva > pupa > adult

A dog's body stays the same throughout its life (except the size). This is called direct development.

Some animals move to a new area for a change of weather or food. This is called migration.

Some animals go into a very deep sleep during which their bodies get much colder and their heart rate slows way down. This is called hibernation.
Population: All of the same kind living in the same environment.

ex. all of the fruit bats in an area is one population
all of the squirrels in an area is another population.

Community:   All the populations of organisms living together in an environment.

ex. the squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, robins, hawks, etc. make up our local community.

Ecosystem: A community and its physical (nonliving) environment together.

ex. the squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, etc. AND the rocks, streams, etc.

Habitat: An environment that meets the needs of a particular organism.

ex- The habitat for a frog is near a pond. The habitat for a scorpion is in a desert.

Niche: The role (job) of an organism in its habitat.

ex- The role of a dung beetle is to eat dung (luckily!).
